Marketa Sagiova was born in Bruchneudorf-Kiraliaida, Hungary. She gained her musical training through the Royal Academy of Music, Budapest and Vienna. She left Budapest and arrived in England in 1938, where she learned English while working as a domestic servant. In Australia she has sung as a mezzo-soprano and taught singing in Melbourne as well as giving recitals. Between 1953-61, she was the ABC Special Artist. In 1969 she won a commendation for her short story,'Past and Present, in the State of Victoria Short Story Competition. She has been a member of the Music Teachers' Association and the Fellowship of Australian Writers. She has a collection of more than 500 unpublished poems.
