BiographyHistory

Segundo Nitor experienced repeated imprisonment in Chile following the coup of 1973. In 1985 Australia offered him political asylum. He arrived in Canberra but soon moved to Melbourne, where he took on the position of president of the Pablo Neruda Cultural Centre. In the 1990s Nitor moved to Queensland. His poetry has been published in anthology in Australia. (From Over the Horizon, p. 169.)

In the mid-1990s Nitor returned for a time to Chile and his visit was covered by the local newspapers, which reported on his time in exile and his involvement in poetry in Australia.
