BiographyHistory

A speaker of Italian and Arabic, Albert Marshall gained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Royal University of Malta and in 1970 a Dramatic Art Teacher's Diploma from London (UK). He then worked as a journalist, public relations consultant and a freelance writer and director in theatre, television and radio in Malta, England and Australia. In Malta he founded the Royal University Players in 1964 and his own company, 'Teatru Workshop', in 1971. From 1971 to 1978 he was appointed Resident Producer/Director with Malta Television Service (Rediffusion). He has directed plays in London, Salzburg, and Malta and in 1980 he was appointed Principal of the National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Malta. In 1981 he was guest Director for the Victorian College of the Arts and Melbourne Television School and was appointed Resident Director for the Film and Media Corporation.

Marshall has been a member of the Australian Journalists' Association, the Victorian Multicultural Writers' Association and was a co-founder and artistic director of the Maltese Performing Arts Association. He has won various awards for poetry in English in Australia. His work has been read on Radio 3EA, Radio 3CR and Radio ABC National and he has read at the Footscray Community Arts Centre, the Phillip Institute of Technology, the Multicultural Studies Symposia and at various literary festivals.
