Stephen Routoulas has worked as a freelance writer and as a high school teacher of Science and Media Studies. In 1986, his short story 'I'm Allright Jack' was published in the South Australian Teachers Journal. In the same year 'Stretch, the Boy from Brompton' was published in both A Centenary History of Education at Brompton Primary School and The Brompton Reader. His poetry has been read on Radio 5EBI FM, Adelaide. He has also read at New Writing Performed, Club Foote in 1990 and for the Multicultural Artworkers Committee at the Living Arts Centre during the 1990 Adelaide Fringe Festival. He contributed an essay titled 'Synergistic States' for Travel/speak : 6 July - 30 July 2000, an exhibition sponsored by the Nexus Community Cultural Development Program. He served on the editorial board of Chroniko from 1987 to 1990 and has written reviews and essays for Ellenika Nea, Chroniko, Artlink, Agenda and Antipodes.
