Violet has been alone ever since her husband Jack's death. Unused to human company, she avoids the missionaries Doris and June, but despite her wishes they push into her life. Though she dislikes their religious speeches, they keep visiting with the pretext of caring for her arthritic knees, until she grows to enjoy company. One day, Violet tells them she's made the biggest choice of her life; the missionaries are overjoyed, thinking she has converted, until she says she is going to a retirement home.
