BiographyHistory

Douglas Lockhart served with the Royal Army Medical Corps in Germany and began his writing career as features editor of his unit's in-house magazine. He has written articles and short stories for London newspapers and magazines. After moving to Australia in 1979, he wrote radio scripts for the Australian Broadcasting Commission's educational division. His first play, 'Julia Flips Her Lid' (a black comedy) was performed in Hobart. Lockhart has been a associate member of the Westar Institute in the United States of America and a research associate at the School of Philosophy at the University of Tasmania. He has been proprietor of Deja Vu Books, Salamanca Place, Battery Point, Hobart, Tasmania.

He has also written Jesus the Heretic (1997) and The Dark Side of God (1999), two books which deal with the critical exploration of the origins and development of Christianity.

  • A novel entitled 'The Second Strength' (1984) was apparently published in a plagarised edition by a Maurice Hurst. According to Lockhart the book was removed from sale after legal action was instigated.
