BiographyHistory

Sergio Martín was born in Chillan, Chile. He studied Spanish at the Catholic University of Valparaiso and journalism at the University of Chile. He worked for Channel 4 TV in Valparaiso before arriving in Australia in 1969. Martín was editor of the Spanish language newspaper La Prensa in Sydney (in 1973) and editor of Vistazo magazine from 1979 to 1981. Subsequently, he was editor of Presencia Latinoamericana en Australia, bulletin of the Latin American organisation, Casa de las Americas. A number of Martín's works have been self-published; he has, as well, had short stories published in El Espanol en Australia and The Spanish Herald. Martin also had an unpublished play, 'El Algun Lugar Encontraremos tu Esperanza' (1990). The title translates as 'Somewhere We Will Find Your Hope'.
