BiographyHistory

After his matriculation in 1952, Stanislav Mares was not accepted for studies at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University for political reasons. Later he studied at the School of Economics and he worked for the literary and theatre agency DILIA. Mares translated from English several literary works of the late 1950s for Czech publications. In the year prior to his emigrating to Australia, he edited an anthology of American poetry titled Obeznameni s Noci [Acquaintance with the Night]. In Australia he has lectured at the Bathurst College of Advanced Education.
