BiographyHistory

Playwright, screenwriter, actor, director.

Osvaldo Maione was born in Castellammare di Stabia, Naples. His work has been published and performed in Italian and English. He gained a degree in the science of public opinion from the International University, Rome and then studied the technique and realisation of animated cartoons with Zagreb Film in Yugoslavia. In Australia he founded the Il Teatro Stabile di Melbourne which staged plays by Pirandello, Goldoni and De Filipo. He began writing and producing plays in 1975 and many of these have been presented at the Italian Arts Festivals in Melbourne and Adelaide. Maione produced his own screenplay, The Dreamers in 1977 and several of his dramas have been broadcast on Melbourne radio.

In addition to his writing and theatre work Maione has appeared in numerous films and and episodes for television series, notably: Women of the Sun (1981), Special Squad (1993), Phoenix (1993), State Coroner (1997), Something in the Air (2001), Stingers (2001-02) and Underbelly (2008) as Ron Bongetti (qq.v.)..
