Sullivan, a butcher by trade, also wrote short stories which were published in the Weekly Times (Melbourne), and in 1990 his poem Winter in the High Country received a certificate of Poetic Achievement from the American Poetry Association. He spent a lot of time travelling throughout the Australian bush which has inspired his poetry.
