BiographyHistory

Redington was born in Hooks, Surrey and left school at age 13 to serve in the English Home Guard. During World War II Redington was conscripted into the Royal Navy and after discharge was employed as an apprentice landscape gardener. The severe English winter of 1947 and prevailing economic hardship convinced Redington to move to Australia.

In Australia Redington worked as a farm labourer, station hand, hawker, taxi driver, and steam engine driver at the old TREB Power Station. He also worked as Manager of the Bush Children's Home at Rowes Bay, Townsville, where his wife, Honor, was Matron.
