BiographyHistory

Sandra Laroche has worked as a freelance artist since moving to Sydney from Brisbane in 1965. She achieves a warmth and softening effect in her artwork by a delicate watercolour overlay to her strong line drawings. Her attention to detail and ability to combine movement, space and mood in her work has seen her compared to Randolph Caldecott (q.v.), Thomas Rowlandson and Carl Larsson.

Laroche has illustrated more than thirty books for children. She is a member of the Australian Society of Marine Artists and has a studio gallery in Tarana, New South Wales as at 2005. She is married to Michel Laroche, and has also illustrated his books.
