BiographyHistory

James Scrymgeour was educated at Perth Academy, Scotland, and then at Otago Boys' High School, Dunedin, and Canterbury College both in New Zealand. In Australia he became a pastoralist and renowned cattle breeder in Queensland. Scrymgeour served with the 2nd Light Horse, A.I.F., from 1916 to 1918. He was permanently blinded by war injuries. He was president and later patron of the Warwick sub-branch of the Returned Sailors' and Soldiers' Imperial League of Australia. In 1954 he received an O.B.E.

One of the poems from Scrymgeour's selected work Echoes of the Australian Light Horse, 'Remounts', was published in the Queensland Rural Bulletin, August 1981.
