Rupert Llandels Waldron Nelson was educated at Aberfeldy School, Turramurra, Warrawee Public School and Barker College, Hornsby. After completing his education in December 1941 he joined the Army and fought at Ramu Valley in Papua New Guinea. He was killed during the landing at Balikpapan, Borneo, while leading his platoon on patrol. His posthumously published book of poems is held at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
