BiographyHistory

Giuseppe Bertuna was born at Vizzini, Catania, Sicily. His work was performed in the Sicilian dialect. In Italy, in 1945 his song lyrics won the silver cup in the Festival of Gela competition. In 1962, in Australia, he joined the Piccolo Teatro di Melbourne as an actor and in 1980 and 1981 he participated in productions of the company 7 + 1, which also staged one of his plays. In 1982 his poem, Lu t'o ritrattu, won the literary contest of the Italian Federation of Germany. His work has been read on Radio 3EA and Radio 3ZZ, Melbourne, and he has read at conferences of Italian culture and literature in Sydney in 1982 and in Melbourne in 1983.
