David Holman was educated at the University of Sussex. He has been a secondary school teacher, film writer and has written numerous theatre-in-education programs for schools which began to be produced in US, Latin America, Australia and Europe and theatre shows.
From 1964-66, he lectured at the University of Ontario and from 1966-67 at the London Film School. He was commissioned by the RSC, Bolton Octagon and Theatre Centre, and worked in Japan, US and Canada as a visiting dramatist.
He emigrated to Australia in 1986 after a long career in theatre and the arts in the UK. His adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's Diary of a Madman enjoyed a very successful season at the Belvoir Street Theatre, Sydney in 1990 and toured extensively. Holman's play No Worries which won an AWGIE ward in1993 was made into a film in 1992 and subsequently won a Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.
He has written more than 70 plays, operas and films and now works alternatively in Australia and England.
