BiographyHistory

Shirley Barber, author and illustrator of children's books, grew up on Guernsey in the Channel Islands. She comes from a family of artists and has also written books on découpage, herbs and Australian wildflowers.

The family emigrated to Australia in 1965. It was not until 1985, widowed and with her children grown, that she decided to revise the text and illustrations of Martha B. Rabbit, written 30 years previously but rejected from publishers at the time. Her current publisher, Five Mile Press, was the third publisher she contacted.
