BiographyHistory

Before moving to Melbourne, J. H. Macdonald spent many years living in Auckland where he attended university and worked as a public servant. He has experience teaching English as a second language and held an editorial position with a publisher that produced nursing and medical resources.

Macdonald's novella 'On the Burning Deck' was 'originally published' in the journal Sport 2 (Autumn 1989) and has since formed the basis of his first published novel, The Free World (1996); a revised version of 'On the Burning Deck' appears as chapter one of this work.
