BiographyHistory

Sister M. Assumpta was a member of the Order of Saint Dominic in Australia. She was the youngest of at least three children of Charles and Margaret O'Hanlon of Queanbeyan, New South Wales.

As well as children's books, O'Hanlon wrote a number of historical and religious works including Christ the Divine Liberator of Woman (1944), Dominican Pioneers in New South Wales (1949), St. Dominic : Servant but Friend (1954), The Queen's Own : The Story of the Loss and Restoration of Devotion to Our Blessed Lady in England (1983?) and Catherine : Ambassador for Christ (1986).

In 1951, she was elected to the Gallery of Living Catholic Authors (an American-based international organisation founded in 1932).

Notes

  • Some sources, including the online portal for the NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages, give the birth name as 'Eileen O'Hanlon'. However, family history says that the birth name was 'Eily', and this is borne out by early newspaper reports on the family and on her schooling.
