Elizabeth Marc is the pseudonym of Elizabeth (or Elsie) Penn Mostyn, nee Algar. Born in England, she married there in 1907 Prince Nusrat Ali Mirza of Murshidabad, India. Before coming to Australia in 1927, she published several children's books, some as Princess Nusrat and others as Elizabeth Marc. After settling in New South Wales, she published (as Elizabeth Marc) one adult novel and several adventure stories for children, some with an Australian setting and others set in the Arctic. She lived with her husband on a grazing property in the Glen Alice area, near Bathurst, where they legally changed their name to Mostyn. Her Australian stories are set in the Glen Alice area and faithfully record her observations of life in the district. Her friendship with the Canadian Arctic explorer Vilhjalmur Stefansson was the inspiration for her Arctic books.
