BiographyHistory

Edward Plant Nesbit was a schoolmaster, author and land agent who came to South Australia in 1849 and lived at Angaston where he opened the first school in 1851. From 1868-1876, with Carl Drewes, he ran the North Adelaide Education Institution, before changing his profession and becoming a land agent.

Nesbit also wrote Christ, Christians and Christianity (1895). He was the father of Paris Nesbit and Adelaide socialist and advocate of sexual reform Agnes Benham, and grandfather of Rosamond Agnes Taylor(q.q.v.). He was also the uncle of the English children's writer, Edith Nesbit.
