— Appears in: The Australian Journal , 31 October vol. 4 no. 166 1868; (p. 156-157) Set on a station near Muswell Brook on Christmas Eve 1848, the narrator is nearly killed while on a night fishing expedition. His wound leads him to the lady he eventually marries - one of his nurses. (PB)

— Appears in: The Australian Journal , 16 May vol. 3 no. 142 1868; (p. 604-606) Grace Winyard gives Fred Everleigh a bible and a white rose as a token of her love as he leaves Somersetshire to try his fortune in Australia. Eight years elapse in which time Fred loses his property, his name and eventually his life. Grace waits patiently until she hears of his death and slowly picks up her own life. (PB)
