Hoa Pham was born in Australia of Vietnamese descent. She was awarded a Masters Degree in Psychology and has worked as a student adviser at the University of Melbourne. In 1999 she participated in a mentorship scheme funded by the Australia Arts Council at the Varuna Writers' Centre and was a contributor to The Women's Power Handbook edited by Joan Kirner and Moira Rayner. In 2007 she was an Asialink Literature Resident in Vietnam. She holds an MA in creative writing from the University of Melbourne, and in 2011 was studying for a doctorate in writing at the University of Western Sydney. She also edits an Asian-Australian on-line journal, Peril.
