BiographyHistory

Marjorie Buckingham was a Senior Lecturer at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) for 32 years. She began teaching shorthand and typing in 1942 and was eventually appointed Instructress-in-charge at the Girls' Commercial School, as the department was then known, in 1959. In 1970 she became the first person to receive an honorary fellowship of the Australian Institute of Private Secretaries. She retired in 1973. (Deslands, Elizabeth; Fastened to the Rock, 1981, p124)

  • Marjorie Buckingham also wrote short stories in the 'Youth' section of the Australian Journal. In the December 1931 edition she entered a story titled 'All For Australia' which was awarded 1st prize. The address given at the end of the column, was Malakoff Street, St Kilda, S2, Victoria.
