BiographyHistory

Aloysious Percy Rogers was the son of the owners of Ulamambri Station, in central NSW. He had three brothers and four sisters.

He was educated at St Ignatius' College, Riverview, and served his time with solicitor Patrick Cummins in Coonabarabran and with the Sydney firm of solicitors, Messrs Curtiss and Barry. He was admitted to ranks of country solicitors in 1906, around which time he also travelled in Europe and into Egypt.

He temporarily left the law to become a grazier in Queensland's Gulf Country.

He married at Gympie; with his wife, he had a daughter and a son.

He began publishing short fiction and poetry before being admitted to the bar.

Returning to the law, he settled for a period in Glen Innes, before returning to Coonabarabran, where he took up the management of his brother's practice. He remained interested in grazing questions, and regularly wrote letters to various newspapers on the subject.

In 1937, he was admitted to Coonabarabran Hospital for a brief stay, before being transferred to Darlinghurst Hospital in Sydney where, two weeks later, he died, apparently of a heart attack.

Among his memberships and associations were a period as an alderman on the Glen Innes Council, the secretaryship of Castlereagh Turf Club, the presidency of the sub-branch of the Western United Country Party, the board directorship of Coonabarabran Hospital, and local and regional memberships of the Catholic Club, Debating Club, Golf Club, Mechanics Insitiute and Chamber of Commerce. His wife was also treasurer at the inaugural Country Womens Association Coonabarabran
