Ian Slack-Smith was educated at Kings School, Parramatta, in Sydney. He has been the member for Barwon, a New South Wales state seat that encompasses his family's station, 'Cubbaroo', near Wee Waa. Slack-Smith's poetry collections are named after 'Cubbaroo'.
