BiographyHistory

Ada Whalan was the great grand-daughter of Governor Macquarie's private secretary. She battled with severe illness most of her life, dying just before the publication of her final volume of poems. She wrote lyrics for a number of songs, including 'Back to Bathurst' (music by Frederick Hall, 1924), 'The Grand Old Hills of Gundagai' (music by John Alexander, 1920s) and 'When You Remembered' (music by Frederick Hall, 1920s), and some of her other poems were also set to music by various composers.
