In 1870, Alfred Seal founded the Ballarat Fish Acclimatisation Society. He was the brother of the Tasmanian Salmon Commissioner Matthew Seal. The Ballarat Academy of Music, where the first performance of Seal's musical was staged, was on the east side of Lydiard Street, opposite Craig's Royal Hotel, where the meeting was held to form the Ballarat Fish Acclimatisation Society.
