BiographyHistory

Thomas Wilkes Monds served an apprenticeship and various positions as a miller in Launceston and Hobart, and in 1867 bought a stone mill at Carrick where he established a successful family milling business. After a world tour and study of roller mills and electricity in America, Monds moved to Launceston where he held many responsible positions in business finance and banking, and served as a territorial justice of Tasmania.

Monds.also wrote the poem In Memoriam [1909?], published on a card, and a travel book, Diary of Our Trip round the World (1910).
