BiographyHistory

George Linley was the son of poet and songwriter George Linley (1798-1865), a prolific composer of lyrics, hymns, ballads, musical arrangements of nursery rhymes and folk songs and operatic works. Linley, the son, published The Gold Seeker: A Metrical Narrative and Other Poems (1860) based on his travels in Australia. He also wrote Old Saws, Newly Set: Fables in Verse (London, 1864), with his name on the title page appearing as 'George Linley, the younger'. He married Emma, the younger sister of Sims Reeves, a singer, on 4 October 1862.
