BiographyHistory

Walter Ivens held a Doctor of Letters from the University of Melbourne. He was a South Seas missionary and an expert on Polynesian languages. He was the author of several works on South Seas languages, including Grammar and Vocabulary of the Lau Language, Solomon Islands (1921), and Melanesians of the South-East Solomon Islands (1927). Ivens also translated Bible texts into indigenous languages.
