BiographyHistory

Born in Latvia, Karlis Abele studied in several countries obtaining PhDs from the universities of Marburg (Germany) and Tartu (Estonia). From 1940 he was Professor of Botany at Riga University and later, in exile, he taught at the Baltic University in Pinneberg, Germany. In Australia he worked as a research officer at the Waite Agricultural Research Institute in Adelaide.
