BiographyHistory

Simon Hochberger was born in Europe (possibly Poland) and arrived in Australia on the Dunera. Before the Second World War, he was a theatre critic and Balkan correspondent for a Viennese newspaper. On arrival in Australia he was interned as an enemy alien and in 1946 published a book of poetry relating experiences of the Warsaw Ghetto. He also contributed as editor to the New Zealand Jewish Chronicle which was founded in 1944.
