BiographyHistory

Ernest Glanville Hicks arrived in Australia as a young man, then lived in New Zealand for a number of years (where he edited the Rotorua Daily Times) before returning to Australia in about 1913. In 1923 Hicks was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Melbourne Lord Mayor's Charitable Fund, a position he held for 25 years.

He was the father of composer Peggy Glanville-Hicks, who used the hyphenated form of the name.

Note: Most bibliographical sources incorrectly list 'Edward' as Hicks's given name and 1871 as year of birth.
