BiographyHistory

Juliette Henry (nee Lebeau, widowed Lopes) married French artist Lucien Henry in 1880. After his return to France in 1891, the couple was estranged and she stayed in Australia and started divorce proceedings against him. According to the Australian Dictionary of Biography (vol.4, p. 380), she 'had lectured on French literature in Tasmania and wrote French plays that were translated by Lady Hamilton, wife of the governor'. Only one of those seems to have survived. Juliette Henry died in Woollahra in 1898.
