BiographyHistory

Actor and playwright.

Richard Capper arrived in Tasmania in 1834, but after three years moved on to Melbourne, where he worked as a carpenter. In 1841, he assisted in building the Pavilion theatre, which opened in July 1841, and for which he worked as a mechanist, building contraptions for on-stage effects. He made few appearances as an actor, largely in small parts or at short notice.

He was 94 when he died, according to his obituary, although his birth date has not been confirmed.
