Holger Wilhelm Blom was born in Denmark, the son of Peter Diderek and Ane Margaret Blom. The date of his arrival in Australia is unknown, but he enlisted in the Australian Army, 31 Battalion, 6th Reinforcement on 17 January 1916. Blom was 31 at the time of his enlistment and gave his occupation as labourer and residence as Boonah, Queensland.
He embarked from Sydney on board the H. M. A. T. A40 Ceramic on 14 April 1916, serving overseas for three years before returning to Australia on 2 June 1919.
Blom published numerous short stories, poems and occasional columns. Most of his work appeared in the The North Queensland Register, including a series of thirty three poems entitled 'Song of the Cheerful Sundowner.' The series ran from 16 August 1926 to 28 March 1927. He also published in Northern Affairs, The Queenslander, The Cairns Post and The Northern Herald.
In 1933 Blom self-published Light Counter Lunch: Funny Cairns in Pars and Pictures, a collection of poetry, jokes and cartoons, which he also illustrated.
