BiographyHistory

Bachelor was an English writer, journalist and broadcaster who spent several years in Australia during the 1930s. He was film critic for the Australian Broadcasting Commission 1934-1937 and a columnist/film critic for the Sydney Sunday Sun 1935-1937. He wrote a book of poetry and a number of novels, but, as far as is known, only the novels listed in AustLit are set in Australia. He also published many books on sport, especially cricket, and on a number of other subjects, including travel and wine. He assisted Winston Churchill in the selection of items included in Maxims and Reflections (1948).
