BiographyHistory

Alfred Baring wrote, published and had his plays performed in German. An engineer by profession, he started a rubber stamp manufacturing business in Sydney. He and his wife, actress Else Baring, joined the Viennese Theatre and he remained its director until his death. A writer of cabaret and revue scripts, he wrote a number with Karl Bittman for presentation by the Viennese Theatre. When the theatre closed, a scholarship was established to be awarded yearly by the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) in the name of the Theatre.
