Nicholas Kolios was born in Tsesmes, Asia Minor, of Greek parents. He studied at the French High School on Rhodes and went to work in the Ottoman Bank where he was promoted quickly to department head. After the catastrophe of 1922 in Asia minor he emigrated to Australia and worked as a journalist with the weekly newspaper Ethniki Salpinx of which he briefly became the owner in October 1923 before he was forced to sell because of financial difficulties. He worked for two years in Mildura until his return to Melbourne in 1927 where, still worried by financial problems, he committed suicide.

Aa well as his journalistic writing he produced poetry and short stories about refugees, his homeland and life in Australia. Several examples of these were published in the paper which he owned and in To Ethniko Vema. A short critique on his poetry was written by Alex Grivas in Panellinios Kirykas in August 1927.
