BiographyHistory

Uldis Silins has published and had his work performed in Latvian. He has worked as a functional manager with Telecom Australia. From 1951 he has been associated with the Sydney Latvian Theatre as resident playwright and actor, and has travelled overseas both as a member of the cast and as the solo performer in his show, An Evening with Uldis Silins. He has received several prizes, both locally and overseas, for his work including the PBLA KF (Latvia) award for special achievements in Drama in 1976. He has written some forty plays, revues and musicals, and some of his plays have been included in school programs as reading material and are used as teaching aids in Latvian Theatre workshops in the United States. He has also worked as a radio journalist for Radio Liberty (Munich) and Radio 2EA and as a freelance journalist and columnist for various Latvian publications in Australia and overseas such as Australijas Latvietis, Latvija, Laiks, Pasaule, Pa Dejas Celu, Jauna Gaita and Tilts. His work has been read on Radio 2EA, Radio 3EA and Radio Liberty.
