John Weachurch labelled himself a professional thief. He was hanged at Pentridge Prison in 1875 for assault on a Warder with an iron handle of a tub, while in jail at Pentridge. Prior to his execution he is believed to have written at least two poems reflecting on his experiences as a convict.
