Margie Cronin grew up on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. In 2008, she was living on an organic farm in Maleny, Queensland.
Cronin began publishing in the early 1990s. Her first collection, Zoetrope: We See Us Moving, was published by Five Islands Press in 1995. Since then, she has published a wide range of poetry collections with Shearsman Books, Puncher and Wattman, and The University of Queensland Press (UQP), most recently The Law of Poetry (2015). Her individual poems are widely anthologised and published in a range of periodicals.
Commended for the Blake Poetry Prize in 2014, she has also won the South Australian Festival Awards for Literature (Innovation in Writing), the Prime Minister's Literary Award (Poetry), and the Gwen Harwood Memorial Poetry Prize, among other wins and shortlistings.
