BiographyHistory

Born at King's Lynn, Norfolk, J. J. Utting began his career as a journalist in association with his father in London. In 1863 he immigrated to New Zealand and went on to work for a number of newspapers, noticeably in Wellington and Christchurch. He moved to Australia in 1881 and became actively associated with newspapers in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Hobart. During his later career Utting also authored and adapted a number of plays, several of which were produced in Sydney.
