Fereday is an artist and photographer who has written many exhibition catalogues on those subjects. She has lectured on art theory and photography at the University of Melbourne, the Photography Studies College, Melbourne and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and was Director of the Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne, 1992-1995.
