BiographyHistory

Hill of Content was established by Michael Zifcak, who became chairman and publishing director, as a subsidiary of Collins Booksellers, to publish sources of Australian history. It was named after a bookshop owned by A. H. Spencer in Bourke Street Melbourne, which was purchased by Collins Book Depot in 1953. Senior managers at the Collins Book Depot were given shareholdings in Hill of Content. It published the Hill of Content Archives series, which reproduced source material on a range of topics for students and librarians, and a number of other titles by Australian writers.
