Brian Clouston ran Jacaranda Press from printers H. Pole and Co's premises in Brisbane.
In 1964, it published Wilf Reeves and Olga Miller's The Legends of Moonie Jarl: believed to be the first children's book completely created by Indigenous people, it recounted stories of the Badtjala people of Queensland (to whom both storyteller and illustrator belonged).
Also in 1964, the press published Oodgeroo Noonuccal's debut collection of poetry (as Kath Walker), We Are Going : Poems, the first book published by an Aboriginal woman.
The press also published works by other significant Australian poets, including Val Vallis (Dark Wind Blowing), Judith Wright (The Day the Mountains Played), and Thomas Shapcott (Time on Fire).
Jacaranda Press also published a wide range of educational titles and atlases.
It remained largely a one-man operation until it was bought out in the early 1960s by Melbourne printing company Wilke. Wilke was then bought by F. W. Chesire. In turn Paul Hamlyn's International Publishing Company acquired Wilke, Jacaranda and Chesire at the end of the 1960s.
