Notes

  • Charles Frederick Chubb was a nineteenth century Ipswich solicitor and public figure. He was also prominent within Ipswich literary circles, and his poems occasionally appeared in the regional and metropolitan press of the day. Chubb has gained notoriety as the author of the first work of poetry to have been separately published in Queensland, viz. An Ode to Sir George Ferguson Bowen, which he wrote in 1859, in honour of Queensland's first governor. Printed on satin, the only known surviving copy is held by the Royal Historical Society of Queensland.
