Matschoss was a writer, director and teacher of theatre, based in Melbourne. In 1992, he and his family moved from Hamburg, Germany, to Australia to escape overcrowding and environmental threats. In August 2000 his play, 'Heart Core', was produced at the New York Fringe Festival. Another play, 'Karen', was performed by the Dandenong Community Arts Centre in the same year. It explores the outcomes for a non-conformist in a small country town.
In 2002 Matschoss was Director of the International Schools Theatre Association Showcase Festival. He was Caulfield Grammar School's Head of Performing Arts in 2004, and the Caulfield Grammar Theatre toured South Australia with his play, 'Alone Is Bliss', in 2005. This play is set in the boarding house of a secondary school and explores themes like peer pressure, bullying and sexual assault. The production embarked on a six week world tour in early 2006. Matschoss's other plays, housed at the Australian Scripts Centre, include 'The Beauty of Scars' (1999) and 'Roadwork Ahead' (2003).
