Eunice Hanger earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in English in 1932, and a Master of Arts in 1939 at the University of Queensland. After teaching English in several high schools in Queensland, she became Lecturer, and later Senior Lecturer, in the English Department at the University of Queensland in the 1950s. Hanger was active as a writer, director and producer in the theatre in Brisbane, and edited a number of drama anthologies.
She was instrumental in establishing the Hanger Collection of Australian Plays in Manuscript at the Fryer Library, University of Queensland. The collection is the largest collection of Australian drama in Australia. The manuscripts were sourced from a wide range of established and new writers, and from drama competitions.
